Tour Activities included

The Coimbatore & Isha Tour Package 3 Days / 2 Nights covers the city and the Western Ghats foothills that sit directly behind it. Highlights include the Isha Yoga Center at the base of the Velliangiri hills, the 112-foot Adiyogi bust and the evening light projection, the Dhyanalinga meditation shrine and the Linga Bhairavi temple, the hilltop Marudhamalai Murugan temple, the Chola-era Perur Pateeswarar temple and its carved Kanaka Sabha, the drive into the Siruvani foothills through Attappadi forest, Kovai Kutralam falls, and the Gass Forest Museum, one of the oldest of its kind in India.

General Tour Description

Coimbatore is Tamil Nadu’s second city and one of its three main airports, and most travellers pass straight through it on the way to Ooty or Valparai. That is a reasonable decision if you have a week. It is a poor one if you have three days, because what sits immediately behind the city is the best part of it.

The Isha Yoga Center is thirty kilometres west at the foot of the Velliangiri hills, and it is the reason most visitors come. The Adiyogi — a 112-foot steel bust of Shiva as the first yogi, holding a Guinness World Record as the largest bust in the world — stands at the entrance and is genuinely startling at scale. Behind it is the Dhyanalinga, a domed meditation space with no rituals, no prayers and no priest, open to people of any faith or none, where the expectation is simply that you sit in silence.

Entry to the centre and to the Dhyanalinga is free. It is not a ticketed attraction and it does not behave like one.

The rest of the itinerary is the city and the foothills — two temples that predate anything modern here by a thousand years, a forest museum from the colonial period, and the drive up to Siruvani, where the water from the dam has a long-standing reputation as among the best-tasting in India.

Three days suits it. Coimbatore is surrounded on three sides by places we cover separately — Valparai to the south, the Nilgiris to the north, Sathyamangalam to the east — so this package deliberately stays inside the city and its immediate hills, and joins onto any of them. Tour itinerary

Coimbatore & Isha Tour Package 2N 3D

A relaxed three-day Coimbatore itinerary covering the Isha Yoga Center, Adiyogi, Dhyanalinga, Linga Bhairavi, Marudhamalai, Perur Temple, Siruvani foothills and Coimbatore city with private transfers.

Day 1 — Arrive Coimbatore: Isha Yoga Center & Adiyogi

Transfer: about 45 minutes · Overnight: Coimbatore

We collect you at Coimbatore airport, railway station or hotel and drive west to the Isha Yoga Center, about thirty kilometres out at the base of the Velliangiri hills.

The Adiyogi is the first thing you see and it does not photograph at its real scale — 112 feet high, about 500 tonnes of steel, and the face visible from a long way down the approach road. The number is deliberate: 112 is the count of paths to self-realisation in the yogic tradition it draws on.

Behind it, the Dhyanalinga sits under an elliptical brick dome built without steel or cement. Inside there is no ceremony and nobody asks anything of you. People sit for a few minutes or an hour. Silence is kept, phones are left outside, and that is the whole protocol.

The Linga Bhairavi temple alongside is a different register entirely — colour, sound and offerings — and is worth seeing straight after the Dhyanalinga for the contrast.

Evening experience: Stay for the evening, when the Adiyogi light and sound projection runs against the bust. Timings vary by season and we confirm them for your dates before you travel.

Day 2 — Coimbatore Temples, Siruvani Foothills & Kovai Kutralam

Local travel: about 80 km across the day · Overnight: Coimbatore

An early start for Marudhamalai, a Murugan temple on a hill about fifteen kilometres north-west of the city, roughly 1,200 years old and reached by road or by a flight of steps if you would rather walk. Mornings are cool and the view back over Coimbatore is worth the timing.

Then Perur Pateeswarar, a Chola-period temple on the Noyyal river about seven kilometres from the centre. The part to see is the Kanaka Sabha, a pillared hall added under the Nayaks, where the carving on the columns — Karna, Arjuna, Bhairava, and a great deal else — is among the finest in this part of the state and almost entirely unvisited.

In the afternoon, the drive west into the Siruvani foothills, through Attappadi forest and up towards the dam. The road itself is the point: forest on both sides, the Ghats rising ahead, and elephant crossing the road often enough that the forest department posts warnings. Siruvani water has a long-standing reputation as among the best-tasting in India, and it supplies most of Coimbatore.

Kovai Kutralam falls sits on the way back and is at its best between October and February. Outside those months it can be reduced to very little, and we will tell you honestly what to expect for your dates.

Day 3 — Coimbatore City Sightseeing & Departure

Transfer: about 30 minutes to Coimbatore Airport

A slow morning in the city. The Gass Forest Museum, inside the Tamil Nadu Forest Academy grounds, opened in 1902 and holds one of the oldest collections of its kind in India — timber specimens, taxidermy and colonial forestry records, in a building that has not been modernised and is better for it.

If you would rather shop, Coimbatore is a textile city — this is where the cotton mills that earned it the name “Manchester of South India” still run — and the wet grinders and hosiery it is known for are cheaper here than anywhere.

Then to the airport or railway station. Allow three hours before a domestic flight. If you are continuing to Ooty, Valparai or Mysore rather than flying home, tell us and we will carry the vehicle and driver through rather than ending here.

Frequently Asked Questions – Coimbatore & Isha Tour Package

Do We Need to Book Anything at the Isha Yoga Center?

Not for the visit itself. Entry to the centre, the Adiyogi and the Dhyanalinga is free and open to everyone, and you do not need to register or belong to anything. It is not a ticketed attraction.

Programmes and residential courses are separate and do need booking directly with Isha, and they are not part of this package. What we handle is the timing — arriving when the Dhyanalinga is open rather than during a closed period, and staying for the evening projection.

Can We Visit Isha Yoga Center If We Are Not Religious?

Yes, and a great many visitors are not. The Dhyanalinga is deliberately built without ritual — no offerings, no prayers, no priest — and is stated to be open to people of all faiths and none. You sit in silence for as long as you want and leave.

The Adiyogi is a sculpture and a genuinely impressive piece of engineering before it is anything else. Linga Bhairavi is a working temple in the conventional sense, and if that is not for you, it is easily skipped.

What Is the Dress Code for Isha Yoga Center?

Modest, as at any temple in Tamil Nadu — shoulders and knees covered for everyone. Shoes come off at the shrine entrances and there are secure counters for them.

The Theerthakund, the consecrated water body on the site, has its own requirement: a dhoti or sarong is provided and must be worn, and there are separate timings for men and women. If you intend to use it, tell us and we will confirm the current timings for your visit day.

What Is the Best Time to Visit Coimbatore and Isha?

October to March. Coimbatore sits at about 400 metres in a gap in the Western Ghats, which gives it a noticeably better climate than the plains — the Palakkad Gap funnels a breeze through the city that Madurai and Trichy do not get.

April to June is hot but still more bearable than most of Tamil Nadu. July to September is dry here while Kerala on the other side of the same mountains is under monsoon. The one date to check is Mahashivaratri in February or March, when Isha runs an all-night event drawing enormous numbers — extraordinary if you want to be part of it, and impossible if you do not.

Is the Velliangiri Trek Included in This Coimbatore Tour Package?

No, and we would not fold it in without a conversation first. The Velliangiri hills behind the Isha centre are a genuine seven-hill climb of around six hours up, on rough ground with no facilities, and people underestimate it every season.

It is usually open from roughly February to May and closed outside that window. If you want to do it, tell us at enquiry and we will build an extra day around it with an early start and a guide. What we will not do is put it on a three-day itinerary as an afternoon option.

What Other Places Can We Add to a Coimbatore Tour?

Coimbatore is the best-placed city in Tamil Nadu for this. Valparai and the Anamalai Tiger Reserve are about three and a half hours south through forty hairpin bends, and are the quietest tea hills in the state. Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve is an hour and a half east, and has more elephant than almost anywhere in South India.

North, Mudumalai and Masinagudi are about two and a half hours via the Nilgiris, which gives you the option of coming back down through Ooty. Any of the three adds three or four days without backtracking.

Can This Coimbatore & Isha Tour Be Combined with the Rest of Tamil Nadu?

Easily. Coimbatore is a main airport with direct flights from most Indian cities and several international ones, so it works as a start or an end point rather than just a stop.

Going south-east, Dindigul and the Sirumalai hills are about two and a half hours and open the route down to Madurai and the southern temple circuit. Tell us at enquiry what else you want to see and we will build it as one route with a single vehicle and driver rather than separate trips.

How Much Walking Is Involved in This Coimbatore & Isha Tour?

Very little. The Isha site is flat and largely paved, with the walk from the car park to the Adiyogi and the Dhyanalinga taking a few minutes each. Perur and the Gass Forest Museum are both level.

Marudhamalai has a flight of steps if you want them, and a road to the top if you do not — we drive up unless you say otherwise. Siruvani and Kovai Kutralam involve short walks from the parking area. This is one of the easier itineraries we run, and it suits older travellers and families with young children without any adaptation.

Our 5-day Kerala trip with Troper Tours was a lovely experience from the moment we arrived until the final day. My friend and I travelled from the UK and everything was organised smoothly, which made the journey comfortable and easy. We enjoyed the changing scenery, local food, tea hills, backwaters and the relaxed pace of the trip. One of our favourite moments was reaching Munnar, where we could enjoy the cool weather, plantations and peaceful mountain views. The vehicle was comfortable, our driver was punctual and helpful, and the team was always easy to contact whenever we needed anything. What we appreciated most was that the trip never felt rushed or overly planned. We had enough time to enjoy Munnar, Thekkady, Alleppey and Trivandrum properly. Troper Tours took good care of us throughout the five days. A memorable Kerala holiday, and we would happily recommend them to other travellers visiting from the UK.

To Put In A Nutshell Our family road trip of Tamil Nadu with Troper Tours was well planed from day 1 to day end. We travelled in full comfort to beautiful heritage sites, tranquil villages and fascinating cultural sites. Each location was beautiful in its own way, and the itinerary allowed for ample time to enjoy each spot without being rushed. The vehicle was clean and spacious, which is well suited for our family, as to our guide he is friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. We particularly liked well-coordination throughout the journey, timely and timely service without fail, effort on every detail. We discovered the legacy of Tamil Nadu there and how it is deeply rooted in tradition, but in a relaxed manner thanks to Troper Tours. It would have made our decision easier had we chosen them for our next South India holiday too.
